What makes this tiny woodsy abode green is that it was built amongst the forest hills without removing one tree, and using the bare essential sustainable materials. The transparency of the exterior implied by these huge picture windows, allows you to look straight through the house as if it almost wasn’t there and thus, at least in theory- leaving a smaller carbon footprint. Also, by bringing in sufficient natural light with all that glass, these homeowners save tons on the electric bill. And with a modern flare, the interior furnishings are minimal and reflect the simplicity of and focus on the forest. Let’s just hope the birds don’t think they can fly through this space without any obstacles.
Even though the house frame is made of wood it is painted in gray color which is very similar to natural stone color. The color is the thing that contrasts to surround vineyards the most. The interior is done in very simple but natural style. Some walls are made of almost raw stone what in addition to wooden insertions create comfortable environment. This unique house in Switzerland was inspired by the mountain which dominates the site at the north. Material, form and color were the only source of design inspiration. The house is a block placed inclined to the ground. The slopping sides of the roof imitate east and west flanks of the mountain.
Chihuahua is part of a golf club community in the desert like northern region of Mexico. It was designed partly buried into the mountain slope to accommodate the difference between in temperatures between day time and night time that can vary for about twenty degrees. The interiors are organized around a series of patios and roof openings that provide light and ventilation and allow spectacular views towards the surrounding landscape. The whole roof structure is made as one continuous surface with different inclinations. That make the house more complex and unique.[ via ]
The white house emerges by way of it’s layout as a series of successive problems. The problems interfere with the possibility of living comfortably and of things running smooth. The house is designed in an awkward fashion where you have to enter it by positioning a ladder and climbing through a small back opening. The narrow construction and distant location of the power outlets constantly makes you problem solve and figure things out. The original white art models offer several other architectural possibilities.
This is just the most interesting project by Jean-Pascal Flavien. He created a house that purposely creates problems for it’s inhabitants! The experiment is creatively titled the No Drama House. It’s a very thought provoking and interesting concept but I wouldn’t personally volunteer to live in the No Drama House! What’s your take on the concept?
